We’re back from summer break and we’re happy to announce the events PedalSafe is planning for this fall! We have a few big items on the calendar so far:

Public Meeting
Join us Monday, September 11 at 6:00pm in the Melrose Library community room at 2502 Melrose Ave NW for our next Public Meeting. (Note the location change from Downtown!) We’ll have an open meeting to discuss advocacy updates, the city budget process for 2024, fall event planning, and to hear from our membership! For the fall, we’ll be meeting on the second Monday of the month and trying out a new location in the Melrose Public Library, which has a nicer meeting space than the main library. It’s an easy bike route there, and for those who wish to ride to the meeting, we’ll be organizing a group ride leaving from downtown and also publishing the route. Stay tuned to our mailing list and social media for details!
Ride to OkraFest
Sunday, September 10, at 2:30 pm from Roanoke Mountain Adventures. Do you like bikes, urban farming, farm fresh food, and entertainment? You’re in luck! PedalSafe is co-sponsoring the Ride to OkraFest, a 5.8 mile ride along the Lick Run Greenway to the Lick Run Farm. OkraFest brings together local food lovers for an evening of celebration on the farm, complete with guided farm tours, yard games, food vendors, community arts projects, live music, and recipe demonstrations! Runs from 3PM-8PM. The ride is free; OkraFest tickets are $5 – $10 purchased separately. For more info, see https://www.roanokemountainadventures.com/, OkraFest, and the Okrafest Facebook Event.
It’s coming up on a year since PedalSafe ROA held our kickoff event at Sweet Donkey! To celebrate one year of advocacy, outreach, and action, we’re hosting a celebration. Come out to Sweet Donkey September 24 from 2:30-4:30pm, then join us for a ride around Roanoke, all skill levels welcome. Bring a friend and let’s help spread the word of cycling safety together!
GO Fest
Friday, October 13 – Sunday, October 15, Downtown Roanoke. PedalSafe will be at Go Fest, and we need your help to volunteer!
- We’ll be staffing the Bike Valet Parking, in partnership with Ride Solutions. Bike Valet offers supervised and convenient bike parking to help support festival-goers to ride to the event and leave their car behind.
- We’ll be assisting with a new Bike Traffic Garden, and Bike Rodeo for the little ones. We hope you’ll come out to learn about bike safety and encourage your kids to do the same.
We’ll be soliciting volunteer help soon, so stay tuned and save the dates! Note that all shifts will be led by an experienced PedalSupervisor, and we’ll be sending out full instructions closer to the event.
