Update: Monday Meeting, announcements, and more

Great News

We have a happy announcement. After much persistence and hard work by the members of our board, PedalSafe ROA is now officially a 501(c)3 nonprofit, charitable organization. This is an important step in our journey and will open a lot of doors to us in the future.

Public Meeting, Monday February 12,

6 – 7:30 PM, Kirk YMCA, 520 Church Ave, Roanoke

We’ll meet to discuss:

  1. RVARC’s Regional Active Transportation Plan

Come to learn about the regional active transportation plan and plan map, and provide feedback. (Note this is the topic we had hoped to address in December, but were unable to do so due to illness.)

  1. Bike Month Planning

Would you like to help plan some fun and educational public events during May – Bike month? We’d love to hear your ideas! This is a great opportunity to get involved  and help promote cycling in the community.

  1. We’ll also have T-shirts and stickers

**Note our new location at the Kirk YMCA. We’ll be meeting downstairs in the community room – just ask at the front desk when you arrive. There are bike racks near both entrances to the building, and the Y also permits bikes being brought inside if you’re not comfortable locking up outside.

Can’t make it but would like to get involved helping with Bike Month? Please email secretary Beth Gross at gross.beth@gmail.com, and we’ll get you connected. Much of the Bike Month planning can be done in small committees and asynchronously.

We need help from our members!

PedalSafe is looking for help growing our social media presence and developing our website. Do you love social media or creating web content? And can you lend us some time or expertise? We’re in need of some helping hands to assist with growing our presence and outreach to the community. Please contact gross.beth@gmail.com with your interest.

Roanoke County Ogden/Starkey Bike/Ped Plan Feedback

There is an opportunity to provide feedback at an upcoming community meeting for the Starkey/Ogden bike and ped study.  It will be next Thursday February 15th from 5 to 7 at the County Admin Center – more info below.  The concepts that the consultants have put together will be on display for community feedback, and cyclists’ voices are needed!

This project will add pedestrian and/or bicycle accommodations to Ogden Road between Electric Road and the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks, and to Starkey Road between Ogden Road and Electric Road.

Starkey Road/Ogden Road Streetscape Improvements

We hope you’re enjoying this lovely warm weather and getting some pedaling in!
