Walk & Roll to School Day

Hosted by Roanoke City Transportation Division, City of Roanoke, and Roanoke City Public Schools
Schools across Roanoke are kicking off Bike Month by celebrating National Walk & Roll to School Day! Kids and families are encouraged to swap the car for two wheels, even just for the day. PedalSafe ROA is proud to support this citywide effort.

Roanoke by Bicycle Film Series
RAD 40th Anniversary Screening

Get ready to travel back to 1986! PedalSafe ROA is thrilled to host a special screening of the BMX cult classic RAD for its 40th anniversary.
RAD follows hometown hero Cru Jones, a young BMX racer who must choose between his college entrance exams and competing in Helltrack, the most grueling and dangerous BMX race in the world. Packed with legendary high-flying stunts, a killer 80s synth-pop soundtrack, and an unforgettable underdog spirit, this movie is an absolute must-see on the big screen!

This event is part of the Roanoke By Bicycle Film Series presented by New Belgium Brewing. Each event in the 2026 Series is hosted by a different local non-profit dedicated to making cycling more accessible for all. This screening supports PedalSafe ROA, a volunteer-led non-profit that promotes Roanoke as a livable community by improving the safety and convenience of cycling and advocating for its greater acceptance.

Bike to Work Day Stations

Hosted by Roanoke City Transportation Division, RIDE Solutions, and PedalSafe ROA
Roll out of bed and pedal to work to celebrate National Bike to Work Day! Free coffee and donuts await at three celebration stations (3rd & Campbell, 6th & Shenandoah, and Memorial Bridge).
Whether you’re a daily commuter or trying bike commuting for the first time, this is a great opportunity to connect with fellow cyclists, learn more about Roanoke’s growing network of bike-friendly routes, and start your morning off right!

2026 Roanoke Ride of Silence

Every year on the third Wednesday of May, cyclists around the world gather for a Ride of Silence to remember those killed and honor those injured on our roads.
PedalSafe ROA is honored to host the 2026 Roanoke Ride of Silence alongside the City of Roanoke on Wednesday, May 20 at Market Square. This year’s honorary ride chair is Roanoke City Mayor Joe Cobb.
The Roanoke Ride of Silence will be held at a slow pace (10mph max.) in silence.

How to participate:
- Bring a bike
- Wear a helmet
- Follow the rules of the road and ride safely
- Ride 10mph or slower during the ride
We encourage you to:
- Wear a black arm band to commemorate a cyclist who has been killed or a red armband to support a cyclist who has been injured.
- Bring appropriate signs and banners or decorate bikes with messaging supportive of cyclists.
Rain Date:
In the case of inclement weather, the rain date for the 2026 Ride of Silence will be Saturday, May 23, 6:30pm gather, 7:00pm ride. PedalSafe will alert participants if the ride is being rescheduled.
Registration, Volunteers, and Waiver
Registration is free and available online in advance or in-person at the ride.
There are also volunteer opportunities available! Please consider helping us bring this important event to life by volunteering to register riders, act as a ride marshal, or clean up after the ride.
All Ride of Silence participants and volunteers must register and sign a waiver prior to the ride. For liability purposes and to comply with our event insurance policy, please complete a separate form & waiver for every child or minor. Registering a child or minor?
