May is National Bike Month! Join PedalSafe ROA throughout the month to celebrate cycling, build community, and advocate for safer streets.

We’re excited to present Reels and Wheels for the second year in a row! Enjoy a laid-back evening of cycling videos, short films, and conversations at Golden Cactus Brewing. Stop by, grab a beer, and say hi.

May 16: Bike to Work Day Celebration

Join PedalSafe ROA and RIDE Solutions to celebrate national Bike to Work Day!

We will be holding a brief rally at Henrietta Lacks Plaza to host the City of Roanoke’s official Bike to Work Day proclamation. Afterwards, head over to Golden Cactus Brewing to continue the celebration with us.

We also need a couple of volunteers to set up and take down the event- please consider helping out!

4-5pm: Bike to Work Day rally and official city proclamation at Henrietta Lacks Plaza

5:15-7pm: Low-key social at Golden Cactus Brewing

May 21: Roanoke Ride of Silence

In collaboration with the City of Roanoke, PedalSafe ROA is hosting the 2025 Roanoke Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 21 at Market Square in downtown Roanoke. This year’s honorary ride chairman is Roanoke City Mayor Joe Cobb.

The Ride of Silence is an annual international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed and support those injured while riding on public roads. The event raises awareness among motorists, the public, and decision makers about the dangers cyclists face on roads.

There are several volunteer opportunities- please consider helping us bring this important event to life!

2025 Roanoke Ride of Silence Online Registration

All participants and volunteers must register and sign a waiver (included in online registration).

Event Details

When: Wednesday, May 21, 2025

Where: Market Square (1 Market Sq, Roanoke, VA 24011)

6:30pm: Gather at Market Square in downtown Roanoke

6:45pm: Opening remarks from PedalSafe ROA and Roanoke City Mayor Joe Cobb.

7pm: Ride about 4 miles, beginning and ending at Market Square. 

~8pm: After-ride social at Olde Salem Brewing Company in downtown Roanoke (315 Market St. SE)

The Ride of Silence will be held at a slow pace (12mph max.) in silence. It is free and open to all.

All participants must:

  • Bring a bike
  • Wear a helmet
  • Follow the rules of the road and ride safely

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Wear a black arm band to commemorate a cyclist who has been killed or a red armband to support a cyclist who has been injured.
  • Bring appropriate signs and banners or decorate bikes with messaging supportive of cyclists.

Everyone is welcome to join us at Olde Salem Brewing Company downtown after the ride for a social gathering.

Rain Date: In case of inclement weather, the backup date is Saturday, May 24 at 7pm at Market Square.

May 22: Bike to the Movies

This year, we’re excited to host the Filmed by Bike Film Festival at the Grandin Theatre! Bike to the theater, grab some popcorn, and join us for an evening at the movies.

Filmed by Bike is a touring collection of the world’s best independent bike films. With a diverse collection of cyclists, perspectives, and styles, this film festival is a true celebration of biking for everyone.
