PedalSafe ROA is seeking candidates for our Board of Directors.
PedalSafe is dedicated to improving the safety, convenience, and acceptance of cycling for all people in Roanoke by advocating for infrastructure improvements, implementing demonstration projects to show what works, and raising awareness for cycling related issues. PedalSafe has a working Board, with all members actively involved in committees, event support, advocacy efforts, fundraising, and outreach. Board members serve without compensation for a two-year term and may serve two consecutive terms.
Activities of PedalSafe’s Board include:
- Monthly Board Meetings to govern the organization and plan for upcoming events and advocacy efforts. First Monday of the month from 6:30-7:30pm via Zoom.
- Planning and hosting monthly public meetings to engage membership. Second Monday of the month from 6:30-7:30pm, in-person.
- Leading or participating in committees. Current PedalSafe committees include the Advocacy Committee, Membership Outreach & Events Committee, and Finance & Governance Committee.
- Plan or support PedalSafe events held throughout the year, including: Bike Month events and the Ride of Silence in May, GO Fest Bike Valet in October, and Holiday Lights Ride in December.
- Tabling at community events throughout the year.
- Community partnership development.
- Participating in advocacy efforts. Current advocacy efforts include:
- City Council speaker series to reinforce Vision Zero commitment.
- Coordinating pull-behind bike lane street sweeper demonstration project.
- Creating safe infrastructure on Jefferson Street.
Board member skills and interests:
Skills such as fundraising, partnership development, event coordination, and a technical background in cycling infrastructure and programs are highly valued. This year, we are especially looking for Board members with the following interests:
- Co-leading the Advocacy Committee: Working with PedalSafe’s current Advocacy Committee lead to plan meetings and coordinate strategic advocacy efforts.
- Filling the Secretary role: Preparing and sending out Board meeting agendas using a standard template. Taking notes at Board meetings and public meetings.
- Supporting social media efforts: Creating timely social media (Facebook and Instagram) posts about cycling infrastructure-related happenings and PedalSafe events.
Overall, PedalSafe needs Board members who are willing to pitch in to get things done.

Applications will be reviewed by the PedalSafe Nominating Committee, and recommendations will be made to the PedalSafe Board in January 2027 with new Board members joining in January 2027.
